Carr Developments is a Black-owned, female-led property development company based in Chicago. They’re committed to revitalising under-served Black communities in HUD Opportunity Zones focusing on creating comfortable, accessible, and safe spaces for young adults, seniors and those with mobility challenges. Our focus was on creating welcoming and empowering environment online and offline, to support their community building goals.

PROJECT CHALLENGE

Carr Developments focuses on both structural and environmental issues. They renovate properties to create safer and more comfortable homes, working closely with local residents to make sure their projects truly meet the community’s needs, not just generic standards. They wanted a different approach, more personal and warm to show they are part of this community and not just another property development company building for profit.

OUR APPROACH

This deep connection with their community shaped the story we built and guided the concept and design of the visual identity. Creating a respectful and welcoming environment included custom accessibility icons, an empowering colour palette, and brand home silhouettes featured in marketing materials like billboards, social media, and the website.

BUILDING HOMES, UPLIFTING COMMUNITIES

“We’re not just building properties; we’re building up the communities we’re a part of.” What we noticed after multiple interviews and conversations with the founders Alana and Alonso is their deep involvement in the economically distressed areas of they home town Chicago. “I want people to know we go the extra mile. We really do care. I don’t want to drive around (Chicago) and see all these people struggling to find a home just because they have a disability or are financially struggling you know.” They want to be remembered for never looking the other way and always finding the best ways to create safe, welcoming homes for those who need them most. So naturally we pinned this as “top priority message” to every brand asset.
